Jordan enters his senior season with an opportunity to become one of the most important players on Severance’s roster but also in the conference. Severance will head into the year as a favorite and it is with a player like Jordan separating himself and being an even bigger piece for the team. Jordan is the team’s catalyst. He’s a tough nosed defender that they can put on the opposing team’s best player, he’s a switchable defender and he put up 2.9 steals a game. That’s where he will make his mark. Jordan was also one of the premier rebounders in the conference as he grabbed 4.2 rebounds a game and committed to doing the dirty work as well. We liked how he played last year, but we got another look at him during the UNC Team Camp this summer, and he was one of the prospects who helped his stock with his versatility and commitment to making the right play. We’re looking for him to keep that same mentality this year on both ends of the floor and being one of the most important players in the conference. He’s game-changer.
What stood out about Jordan’s game was how naturally he stood out in the game without needing the offense built around him, and his ability to find ways to make his mark in games. He’s a versatile piece who keeps the ball moving, makes the extra pass, and consistently finds ways to create advantages for Severance within the flow of the offense. He set screens, rolled to the open spot, attacked the glass, and was a playmaker for the team. He did a bit of everything and was involved in almost everything Severance did well. In their matchup against Green Mountain, there was a stretch where he grabbed a defensive rebound, pushed the break himself, delivered a dime in transition, then came down the next possession and scored through contact. That sequence pretty much summed up the weekend. He wasn’t hunting stats, but he kept being the difference maker. The scoring was there when they needed it, but what impressed me most was the versatility and feel. Severance is going to need him to take on a much larger role this season, and based on what I saw at camp, he’s more than capable of being one of the players who helps the team the most besides Powell.
Rodriguez continues to find success within this group’s context, steadily drawing free throws thanks to his consistent rim pressure in each of his matchups. Much more physical than most backcourt names within the Longs Peak league, he brings a high motor that has added production on the glass as needed. Clearly a comfortable secondary playmaker who is at his best attacking the rim, he has shown early signs as a capable decisionmaker once help arrives.
