Expert Analysis
Davis McCarn | Prep Hoops Scout
Hoover is a high level catch and shoot threat from three, capable of getting hot in a hurry. He has multiple games this spring where he knocked down 6 or more in a game. He moves well without the ball and consistently finds open space to get clean looks from deep. Inside the arc, he’s comfortable playing off two feet, showing good balance and control when finishing through contact. Hoover understands how to stay within the flow of the offense while still being a scoring option at all three levels. Overall, he provides valuable floor spacing and instant offensive impact from the perimeter.

This 2027 shooter has generated tons of buzz in the upstate already this spring. He’s had big shooting games, as he did during the winter, but it also sounds like his ability to score inside the perimeter is improving as well. There’s no questioning his ability to add spacing to an offense, but if Chase can add some strength to hold up defensively, he could be a real asset at the next level.

Hoover was one of the real breakout two-guards in the Upstate this season. He put up over 15 points per game with 59 makes from three. Listed at 6’3″, Chase has some solid positional length to pull the trigger over opposing guards, along with decent athleticism to make plays off the dribble. Hoover had seven games with 20 or more points and will likely be the #1 option for the Tigers in 2026-27.

is a new name that I learned on day one of the 2025 Poinsettia Classic. He had a terrific shooting day, going for 16 points on 4-10 3FG. Hoover is the best shooter on the Tiger Roster and is the guy whom they target on set plays. He helped bring the Tigers close at the end of the first half with a catch and shoot left-corner three and a contested left-wing three off a sidelines pass. Despite being an excellent shooter from distance, Chase does have some room for growth as a finisher because he is smaller in frame. That addition would make his game more complete, turning him from a spot-up shooter to a guy who can positively affect the game even when his shots aren’t falling.
