I’ve documented this one for the last few weeks now, but Whitaker received a well-deserved boost into the top-20 as he’s become one of the most productive freshmen at the varsity level in the area. He’s a foundational piece to the youth movement at Boys’ Latin and has shown great promise as a combo guard who can impact both on or off the ball. It takes all freshmen time to adjust to the physicality and speed that the varsity level brings, especially in the Catholic League. Whitaker didn’t take long to find his footing and leave his imprint as a scorer and tough-nosed defender next to

in the backcourt, another underclassmen guard in Dom Milburn’s stable who performed as a freshman and only improved as a sophomore. The signs that Whitaker has shown thus far lead you to believe that a similar jump is coming his way.

It was expected for the Lakers to take their punches this season given the youthful roster and while the wins aren’t piling up, the development and promise for the future are bright. Whitaker is a big reason why and he showed with his dynamic scoring ability. The 5-foot-11 combo guard averaged 20.5 points , 3.5 rebounds and 2 steals per game and was brilliant in Boys’ Latin’s tight loss to La Salle Academy where he put up 25 points, grabbed five rebounds and accounted for 4 steals. He can get downhill and finish in transition, but also showed off some improved confidence from deep shooting 45.5 percent on 11 attempts. Expect Whitaker to receive a massive boost in the 2029 rankings update.

Brayden impressed our scouts thanks to his new and solid contributions to the Boys’ Latin roster. He makes plays all game long on either side of the court. Never backs down from his opponent, will guard the opposing big man with the same fearless approach as a smaller guard on the perimeter. Shoots the ball from anywhere on the court and can break down the defense with his handle and unpredictability. Brayden is a jack-of-all-trades from the guard spot and will make a big impact as a young transfer this season for the Lakers.

Brayden started to find his rhythm in a nice way later on through scrimmage play. He was comfortable creating plays for others in the early stages of the day, making drive and kick plays time and time again. Liked Brayden’s sense for when the time was right to attack the defense. Had a smooth drive to the basket showing off his keen pace change and quiet quickness. Shot the ball very well from deep and created some nice looks off the dribble in the midrange. Sound performance from the young guard.
