Bill Stephens Bill Stephens 5'10" | PG Wewoka | 2028 State OK entered the summer off a big sophomore season, averaging over 17 points per game and carrying that momentum into the offseason. The electric 6’0 guard is the type of player you can miss if you blink, using his speed and agility to fly past defenders and attack the paint. Stephens has a strong handle that allows him to stay in control while moving at a high pace, making him difficult to contain once he gets downhill.

Stephens also brings a crafty finishing package around the basket, using well-timed hop steps to navigate through traffic and create clean scoring opportunities. His quickness gives him an extra gear that allows him to turn small openings into easy buckets. With his combination of speed, ball control, and creativity around the rim, Stephens is a guard who can put constant pressure on opposing defenses.

Stephens has been quite productive since his freshman year, capping it off by leading Wewoka to a Class 2A State Tournament appearance. Now with Stephens and his squad established, they’re looking to stay in the title picture. The lefty is a quick twitch guard, making him a transition threat. And capable of carving up the defense in the halfcourt, with good acrobatic finishing at the rim. Add in three point shooting and he’s set to build off his 17.6 point per game scoring average from his sophomore season.

After a setback last week, Wewoka had to run the gauntlet of three wins in three games. Stephens delivered during all three stages, including a monstrous 46 points, 7 rebound, 5 steals game in the Area consolation finals on Saturday night. Impressively it came against 3rd ranked and recent mainstay at the State Tournament, Pocola. Stephens’ performance made it a leave no doubt type of game, as the Tigers won 87-68. The Tigers have a rich tradition with 5 state titles (last in 2016) and now 27 State Tournament appearances. Stephens is already writing his name along the past greats as he’s a 1,000 point scorer after only two seasons. With fellow sophomore LD Woods, who had 26 points and 10 rebounds vs Pocola, this looks to be the start of a special run for Wewoka.

Stephens has put impressive numbers with full stat lines while elevating an exciting Tigers squad into the 2A State Tournament picture. Good quickness, body control and handles allow him to carve up defense off the bounce into hang time finishes at the rims. Along with mid-range jumpers. Shoots it well from deep too. Routinely sets up his talented teammates and rebounds well for a smaller guard. At times can dance a bit with the ball in his hands, which at the small town level he can get away. But in bigger games and AAU play, it will pay to be more direct with the ball. Multi-sport standout, who will have collegiate opportunities in football and basketball.

Stephens has Wewoka off to a 6-1 start, including last night’s win over Class 4A Broken Bow. Like his team, he started a bit slow but finished very strong. First stood out when he get skinny on a drive, then hit a tough floater. After that his three point shooting ability carried the day. He has range beyond the high school line. Drained a big one in the fourth that helped put the finishing touches on their comeback. Promising small town scorer.

Part of an exciting tandem for small town Wewoka, more of an exciting electric athlete with how he moves. Rises off the floor quickly and violently. His football and track background is very evident in how he plays. Shaping up to be one of the more dynamic small town scorers, who brings excitement to the game. Especially with his ability to get after it on defense with steals and moving his feet to harass opposing ball handlers. Very interesting potential two way impact player.
