Summer Standouts from the 2A Ranks

Oklahoma's summer basketball season delivered standout performances across multiple circuits, giving a glimpse of who could make major impacts this winter. With the release of the latest OSSAA reclassifications and current transfer information in mind, here are a few Class 2A players who caught my attention this summer.    [player_tooltip player_id='2140789' first='Ryker' last='Buckley'] is a high-energy 6'0 guard who brings speed, hustle, and nonstop pressure to the floor. He attacks downhill quickly and uses crafty moves to navigate through traffic and create separation from defenders. Buckley knows when his shot is available and when to make the extra pass, consistently finding his teammates when defenses collapse. He can also heat up quickly from range, making him a dangerous scoring threat once he finds his rhythm.   Buckley brings that same energy to the defensive end, where he does a great job disrupting passing lanes and picking the pocket for steals. His quickness allows him to apply pressure from one end of the floor to the other, and he is not afraid to go all 94 feet. His combination of speed, defensive intensity, playmaking, and shot-making makes Buckley a guard who can impact the game in a variety of ways.     [player_tooltip player_id='2403011' first='Oliver' last='Smithwick'] brings a strong, built 6'5 frame that made him a tough matchup for teams throughout the NXTPRO circuit. Smithwick handled business in the physical areas of the game, consistently shining when it came to grabbing rebounds, drawing fouls, finishing through contact, and doing the dirty work that helps teams win. His strength and physicality allow him to create advantages around the basket while making his presence felt on every possession.   Smithwick also has the ability to become a force from beyond the arc when his shot is falling. He brings a pure shooting form that suits him well and gives defenses another element to worry about. The combination of his physical presence, rebounding, ability to finish, and developing perimeter threat makes Smithwick a versatile piece who can impact the game in multiple ways.     [player_tooltip player_id='3656498' first='Seth' last='Dunivan'] entered the summer off a strong junior season, averaging over 18 points per game, and continued to show why he is such a difficult matchup. The athletic wing can do a little bit of everything, using good ball control to cover the court and create opportunities for himself. Dunivan has a strong feel for when to use his spin move, often creating separation and opening up scoring chances. He is also not afraid to use the glass when shooting and brings a soft touch when attacking the paint.   Dunivan's athleticism allows him to impact the game above the rim as well. He can soar for rebounds, finish with punches at the rim, and get down the floor quickly in transition. His bounce took another step forward this summer, adding even more explosiveness to his dunks. With his scoring ability, athleticism, ball control, and improved elevation, Dunivan is set to be a major problem for opposing defenses this season.     [player_tooltip player_id='2677148' first='Bill' last='Stephens'] entered the summer off a big sophomore season, averaging over 17 points per game and carrying that momentum into the offseason. The electric 6'0 guard is the type of player you can miss if you blink, using his speed and agility to fly past defenders and attack the paint. Stephens has a strong handle that allows him to stay in control while moving at a high pace, making him difficult to contain once he gets downhill.   Stephens also brings a crafty finishing package around the basket, using well-timed hop steps to navigate through traffic and create clean scoring opportunities. His quickness gives him an extra gear that allows him to turn small openings into easy buckets. With his combination of speed, ball control, and creativity around the rim, Stephens is a guard who can put constant pressure on opposing defenses.     [player_tooltip player_id='2829537' first='Mekko' last='Bobo'] entered the summer following a strong start to his freshman year and continued to show why he is a name to watch. Running with [program_tooltip program_id='2078402' first='Team' last='Griffin'] Academy, Bobo served as the primary ball handler while leading the floor with competitiveness and energy. He puts his body on the line every second of the game and plays with a high motor whether he has the rock or not. Bobo is always active, constantly looking for scoring opportunities, and brings an aggressive mindset to every possession.   Bobo is a confident shooter who excels from beyond the 3-point line and in the mid-range, never hesitating to let it fly when he finds his opening. He also has a crafty touch around the basket, earning the reputation of a layup wizard with his ability to finish in traffic. Bobo even has some sneaky bounce, allowing him to rise up and throw down one-handed finishes at the rim. His energy, toughness, and scoring ability make him an exciting young guard to watch.
