The host Mason Comets were incredibly impressive in a blowout victory over Cincinnati Taft. Menker started his senior season a man on a mission, dominating in all four quarters. A physical wing, Menker had multiple and-1 finishes at the rim and played harder than the opposition. Scoring in a variety of ways, he got putback layups, drive and scores, spot-up 3-pointers and post moves after pump fakes. If Menker can continue this level of play, Mason will be a team to watch in the GMC race that is sure to be competitive.

The most notable name I caught all day, Menker was easily the top standout this week at the fall league. Impacting the game in a variety of ways, Menker was putting on a show in his hometown. Simply too big and strong around the rim, Menker scored consistently in the paint on drives and offensive rebounds. Menker also caught fire from downtown, running off screens and hitting catch and shoot 3’s when he was left open. After seeing the confidence he shot the ball with, I expect Menker’s 3-point percentages to go up as a senior after knocking down 27% last season. Mason has a lot of talent in this fall league and should be competitive in arguably the toughest conference in the state this winter.

Menker once again was a standout at an event I scouted at, showcasing his high basketball IQ to be productive on both ends. Menker moves well without the basketball and finds himself open often when his team has the ball. There’s a reason why Menker has played at the 3SSB level at 15 and 16 U despite not being the most talented player on those courts, it’s because he knows how to play within a system and be productive without scoring the basketball. Very few high volume high school scorers will be high volume scorers in college, so Menker is already ahead of the curve with his transition to college by knowing how to produce without scoring. I’d like to see Menker become more consistent shooting it from the outside and get his handle tighter, but those are things you develop with reps in the off-season, the physicality and knowledge of the game are much harder to master and Menker’s a step ahead in both categories.

Menker came into the event as one of the better known players in the state as he is currently ranked in the Prep Hoops rankings for the 2024 class. He made it known early on his skill level was slightly higher than others in attendance. Understands his body and uses his size to finish over defenders. High basketball IQ with this and his spacing in a half court setting. Contributes more than just scoring which makes him even more versatile.

Another Mason prospect makes this list as Menker once again stood out for his team. Menker is a worker who scored a lot of his points by playing harder than the opposition. Menker also doesn’t need to score the ball to make an impact on the game as he makes the smart quick pass and rebounds well for his position. I want to see Menker take the next step as a spot-up shooter and driver this winter to take his game to the next level.
