Montezuma-Cortez | 2028 StateCO
emerged as a vital spark for the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers, helping lead the team to an impressive 25-1 record and a deep state tournament run. Averaging 14 PPG and a dangerous perimeter threat, Lang showcased his scoring ability early in the season with standout performances. Lang’s impact remained undeniable as one of the team’s primary leaders. His growth from a freshman contributor to a sophomore mainstay solidified his reputation as one of the most promising young shooters in Colorado’s 4A classification. Overall, Lang’s poise and offensive efficiency were instrumental in the Panthers’ dominant season.
Lang continues to shine in the secondary role for Montezuma-Cortez as he plays with a chip on his shoulder; he fills up the box sheet and is an aggressive three-level scorer. Lang plays off-ball and is dangerous with the ball in his hands. He hits big shots when called upon, he plays with confidence, and is a microwave scorer. We’ve seen him have some big games this year, and he was able to help push them over the edge in their last game. This game will call for him to continue scoring, find the open man, and make plays in the open court. He’s a player to know in this round, and a big game by him and can keep the season alive.
Lang has been a perfect second option for undefeated 15–0 Montezuma-Cortez, impacting the game in far more ways than just scoring. He fills the stat sheet every night with 16.3 points, 3.2 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 steals showing his all around value. As a shooter he understands spacing and uses his gravity and clean technique to create quality looks for himself and his teammates. Defenses can’t relax when he’s on the floor, and that opens everything up within the offense. Beyond the numbers, Lang is a tough nosed competitor who brings consistent energy and physical defense. His ability to knock down shots, make winning plays and guard at a high level makes Montezuma-Cortez even harder to deal with as they continue their unbeaten run
Unsure if you’ve seen our team rankings on our homepage, but the No.2 team in the entire state through the numbers has been Montezuma-Cortez. Their best player has been Lang. He’s been one of the biggest surprises in the entire state. Lang is averaging 17.3 points a game and has his team sitting at 6-0 on the year. He’s the primary ball handler, due to being the top scorer, and while all of the defense’s attention is on him, he still finds ways to get everyone else involved. He’s averaging 3.3 assists a game and, reading what defenses are giving him, hunting shots, and his 3.0 steals a game have shown he’s involved defensively but turning into easy baskets for himself as well. He jumps from the watch list and into the rankings for the first time, and it’s a testament to the hard work he’s put in and progress made. We’ve never written about a player from Montezuma-Cortez, so he’s broken that barrier with his play.
Lang continues to shoot the ball very well from distance, a legitimate offensive weapon over at Montezuma-Cortez. Proving effective as a downhill scoring option when needed, the guard has succeeded all season due to his ability to be a threat on or off the ball. Contributing to Montezuma-Cortez’s 8-2 record, they are among the best teams within the 4/3A Intermountain League.
Lang has been among the most efficient floor spacers in this class, contributing 48% of his three point attempts in his first few games. Posting 11.8 points per game, the guard is adept at getting the shot off quickly, drawing in plenty of pressure off the catch. Still a capable decision maker while on the attack, he is consistently scoring against incoming contests.
