He has 8 talented teams of 8-10 players on each team. (Some were out of town in CA and didn’t attend this week).
And they will be competing for around 3 weeks on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Each team plays once a night and eventually every team will play each team once.
I will review all 8 teams’ standouts this week.
We now look at the Lakers:
Dasean Lecque Dasean Lecque 6'0" | CG Bella Vista Prep | 2022 State #207 Nation AZ (Desert Vista) (Pictured)
-A walking bucket and natural scorer from all three levels. His pull-up is clean and he has a yo-yo handle to create separation on his defender. He defends his man well and his added strength he put on his frame should help once he gets into the lane. He has an impressive burst and he will be one of the toughest to defend next year in 6A.
Lareon Ginnis Lareon Ginnis 5'9" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State AZ (South Mountain)
-A two-way pure PG who is a true facilitator. He has advanced court vision and is a ball-hawk defender. His lateral quicks are some of the best in the class and his first step gets him to where he wants to go. He can keep progressing his shooting long term but he takes contact well despite his thinner frame in the paint.
Jai Anthoni Bearden Jai Anthoni Bearden 6'6" | SF Sunnyslope | 2024 State AZ (Copper Canyon)
-A long and lean point forward type. He can hit the catch-3 and rebounds really well in his area. He can defend multiple positions and is an unselfish teammate. He pushes the ball in the open court like a guard and makes a couple plays per game that are impressive.
Bearden upside is very high. He will be a day-1 starter in HS.Maper Maker (Dream City Christian)
-A super tall and long 8th grader has a ton of upside. The youngest of the Maker family is also Thon’s cousin and brother of Makur Maker Makur Maker 6'11" | C Hillcrest Prep | 2020 #10 Nation AZ . He shoots 3’s and block shots at a high level. He moves really well and can handle it a little already. Once he puts on weight and gets stronger, watch out.
The youngest Maker has 5-star potential.Noah George Noah George 6'3" | CG Canyon International Academy | 2026 State AZ (Dream City Christian)
-The young guard was fearless. He can shoot it from the 3pt line plus can drive the lane and finish in traffic. He has a good sense of the court and fights on defense. The 8th grader even blocked one shot during the game.
