The Dale Pirates are the No. 3 team in 2A and their success is almost exclusively reliant on their premier guards, D. Forsyth and B. Johnson running the offense and by running the offense, I mean getting their big man, T. Thompson the basketball. He finished Monday night’s game with 15 points and 14 rebounds. His height and athleticism make him practically unguardable in today’s small-school ball.
With the game being such a perimeter game these days, it’s unusual to see a player nailed to the paint like Thompson is but as long as his teammates get him the ball with consistency, it’s going to be taxing for any team to stop him. Things will get even more hectic if Thompson rebounds as he did against Cashion on Monday night.
Forsyth and Johnson are the perfect backcourt duo. While one, Forsyth is the scoring guard, Johnson is the main distributor and defensive guard. Forsyth scored 13 points and added four assists, while Thompson had five points, five assists, and two steals against Cashion.
Cashion may have won the game despite shooting 5-21 from three, they also may have won the season series but both of those losses were on the road for Dale. It will be exciting to see the two face off on a neutral court, in the Big House for the 2A State Title.
