#1 Millennium 17-1
Millennium finishes the season as the #1 team in 5A. Millennium has come in the #1 spot in 5A and in state every week in our power rankings. Heading into playoffs, Millennium looks like the clear favorite!
Key Wins: South Mountain, Sunnyslope, Gilbert, Valley Vista
#2 Ironwood 17-1
Ironwood comes in at #2. Heading into playoffs, I think that if anyone is going to win state not named Millennium, it could be Ironwood. I think they have the size and speed to match up nicely with Ironwood and I am really hoping we see these two heavyweights square off once again!
Key Wins: Cactus Shadows, Apollo x3. Sunnyslope x2, Sunrise Mountain, Centennial x2
#3 Gilbert 16-2
Gilbert has once again shown a lot of toughness as they did last season. Many did not expect Gilbert to have the season they are having after losing two key seniors. However, Gilbert is once again in the fold of things and are looking to make it back to the state finals once again.
Key Wins: Valley Vista, Chandler, Sunnyslope, McClintock, Casteel x2
#4 South Mountain 16-2
I knew this team was going to be a problem this year! I am very happy to see this squad do so well as they were once looked at as underdogs, they are now looked at as serious contenders. Very happy for SM! They have some incredible guard play and a nice center piece to match. South Mountain was also the closest to beating Millennium this season, losing 62-63.
Key Wins: Casteel, Paradise Valley, Carl Hayden x2, Central x2
#5 Sunnyslope 14-4
Sunnyslope rounds out our list at the #5 spot. In the AIA rankings, Slope comes in at the #7 spot. I understand they have a few teams ahead of Slope but I feel like Slope is still a top 5 team in 5A easily. They have a ton of size and talent. They are a team you don’t want to run into come playoff time.
Key Wins: Ironwood, Chaparral x2, Rancho Solano, Apollo x2, Sunrise Mountain x2, Centennial x2
