Darrin Ryan measures up at six feet one inch, currently competing in his fourth and final season as a guard for the Sabercats, and showed all the qualities you would want to see from a senior. Displaying mental toughness, clutch shooting ability, and excellent leadership as a team player, he was the force that kept Southmoore’s motor running all game long. Though Ryan had a rough first half shooting the ball, he did not let that reach him in the slightest. He exploded out of the locker room from the break with the exact same confidence and, in the second half, knocked down three big threes and gave his team the boost it needed to get over the hump.
Every shot Ryan took was with the utmost confidence from himself and his teammates around him. He never hesitated to let it fly and that showed him success in the second half of the matchup. “It was my teammates, really” shared Ryan after the game. “They never lost confidence in me and told me to keep playing my game, so of course I was going to listen to them.”
Doing all the little things a great teammate would be expected to do, Ryan always made the extra effort to make the right play for his teammates. Whether diving for a loose ball or calling out his man on defense, he was excellent in that area. “I want to leave it all out there on the floor for my teammates,” he explained. “They’re willing to do the same thing for me so I’ll bust it down the court on [defense] and make sure they know I’m working too.”
Ryan currently hold one offer from East Texas Baptist and will definitely continue to get looks from NAIA and small school coaches. There is definitely a spot out there for a player of his caliber.
