Continue ReadingNorman won the seventh-place game at the 60th annual Bishop McGuinness Classic but somehow it felt like a disappointing outing for the Tigers that seem to have plenty of talent on their roster.
They lost Friday night’s game by two points to Deer Creek, or else they were set to play Santa Fe in the third-place game. They just couldn’t hit shots down the stretch on Friday night, despite playing a tough brand of basketball throughout.
Two players led the charge in that category.
Ben Emmert and Jaden Bray served as anchors for the Tigers on both ends of the floor.
Emmert was responsible for half of Norman’s points. The senior wing undoubtedly led the charge for Norman on the offensive end by scoring 22 points, including netting three triples against Deer Creek. He was automatic with the ball in his hands and there wasn’t anything more he could have done to help the Tigers.
Defensively, junior guard Jaden Bray was their anchor. He only scored two points, but he did all the things that don’t show up in the stat book. That may be a clichè statement but it’s true. Without BRay, Norman would have lost by at least 10-12 points. He’s the reason why they led through most of the game, it just wasn’t enough down the stretch.
Norman’s record doesn’t reflect how good they are. They have a lot of good pieces, they just have to learn how to put it all together.
