I got to the event around early afternoon and watched each game from that point on. I took a look at various players by year and concentrated on the top standouts from each grade. Here’s a look at a few more of the top seniors from the event.
1. Fidelis Okereke – King/Drew
Okereke is one of the top unsigned seniors in the Los Angeles area and a very underrated player. He has an offer already from Cal State Dominguez Hills. He’s a versatile big man who can score in a variety of ways. He’s comfortable with the ball in the post, but he can shoot from distance too. He’s really established himself as a defensive anchor in the paint. Solid man defender too who can switch to guarding wings at times on the perimeter.
2. Brandon Kircher – West Torrance
Kircher was a player that stood out as doing a lot of the little things that don’t always show up in a box score. He is a decent positional defender in the paint. He contests well and has the mobility to stick with his opponent. Boxes out well and is a pretty decent rebounder. He can set screens well too. Offensively, he has good hands and can finish at the rim. Puts himself in the right place to succeed.
3. Caleb Hall – Peninsula
Hall is a versatile big man with an ability to score in multiple ways. He can hurt you in the paint and finishes strong at the rim. He’s a good rebounder, especially on the offensive glass for second shot opportunities. He can draw contact and is a decent free-throw shooter. He can hit step back jumpers and he has a quick release on his shot. Has range out to the three-point line.
4. Devin Tillis – Windward
Tillis, a recent UNLV commit, had also been one of the top unsigned seniors in the Southern California area. He’s also a versatile scorer. He can shoot well from three-point range and can’t be left open. He can also put the ball on the floor and makes plays off the dribble. He moves well without the ball and makes good cuts around the rim. Solid rebounder, especially on the offensive end to keep possessions alive. Finishes well in traffic.
5. Sebastian Mendoza – Hillcrest
Mendoza was a key player in keeping the game against Windward close almost the entire way through. He’s a team captain, and he showed why with tremendous leadership and poise. He’s a point guard so it’s his job to keep composed and quarterback the team. He’s a good three-point shooter and he can create his own shot on the perimeter. Can also attack the rim. He’s an overall tough player who plays solid defense and can take charges.
