One of the great aspects of that is seeing teams and players go head to head in matchups that we wouldn’t otherwise see. That being said, let’s take a look at some 1-on-1 matchups between seniors in Michigan high school basketball that I’d like to see in 2020.
Jalen Terry vs. Lorne Bowman
Jalen Terry (2020, PG, Flint Beecher)
Lorne Bowman (2020, PG, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)
Who wouldn’t want to see this? Terry and Bowman are both high level Division 1 players. Terry can aggressively attack the rim and finish while Bowman is a smooth and steady player.
Sir’Real Smith vs. Jacob Tomsich
Sir’Real Smith (2020, CG, Saginaw)
Jacob Tomsich (2020, CG, Midland Dow)
These 2 prolific scorers would put on a show. It’d be tied at 9 by the time they walked in the gym. Tomsich has a pure shooting stroke and Smith can create at any time.
Justin DeGraaf vs. Nick Branton
Justin DeGraaf (2020, PF, Hudsonville)
Nick Branton (2020, C, South Lyon East)
DeGraaf is a pretty highly ranked post player who’s strong and sturdy in the paint. Branton is a rising prospect that’s shown a high ceiling. It’d be interesting to see how Branton matches up with a solid post prospect that can match his strength.
Jon Brantley vs. Jamoni Jones
Jon Brantley (2020, PG, Brother Rice)
Jamoni Jones (2020, PG, East Kentwood)
Brantley and Jones are both aggressive off the dribble. They are 2 of the top score first point guards in Michigan. Both are ranked in the top 10-15 senior prospects.
Kyle Legreair vs. Griffin Yaklich
Kyle Legreair (2020, G, Cass Tech)
Griffin Yaklich (2020, G, Saline)
Prep Hoops Michigan has the 2 guards ranked right next to each other. Both have good height and strength and dictate a game. This matchup would be a battle of wills between 2 very good players.
