Prospect Spotlight: Alex Cadet (2022)
Alex Cadet, a class of 2022 wing from Takoma Academy, is drawing rave reviews from Head Coach David Credle and its easy to see why. At 6-foot-6, 190+ pounds, Cadet has long arms, broad shoulders and a frame that will fill out over time. Takoma Academy was without its two best players to start the season, so the sophomore has been getting some extended run. Needless to say, Cadet is benefiting from the experience.
“I’d say I’m a shooter who can come inside now and then,” Cadet told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “I like to get my teammates involved and I like to play defense.”
One thing that stands out about Cadet is the impact he makes defensively. He can protect the rim by walling up, using his length and staying on his feet. Cadet also does his due diligence on the boards. At his size, there aren’t many with the skill set of Cadet. He is a skilled shot-maker who can stretch the floor and score from the in-between areas. Cadet is an underrated ball-handler but has to work on being more efficient and finishing more consistently at the rim.
“I model my game after Kevin Durant,” he explained. “I like that he’s a 7-footer and he’s a guard.”
Cadet said that his goals are to continue steadily improving and play D1 basketball. He has the potential to do so but he has to continue to work. It will be fun to watch Cadet continue to grow and develop over the next few years.
