It was a big game for PCW as they were led by Rondel Walker and MJ Warrior who both set the pace both ways. Walker was always looking for the outlet pass to get out in transition and that eventually led to lots of wide open layups for the Patriots. Warrior was a floor general with the ball in his hands and had plenty of drive and kicks for open threes. Both star players were too much to overcome for Lawton Christian.
The Patriots had a crazy stretch in quarter two where they scored almost exclusively from long range, five in a row. Daylon Andrews had a huge second quarter for PCW when he hit two threes, including a step back, that prompted an 8-0 Patriot run as they went into the break leading 35-22. After the half, they sucked the life out of the Crusaders with a full court press that forced plenty of turnovers.
The Crusaders were able to battle and hang around thanks to their ultra talented big man Maleng. The 6’10 sophomore was all over the place blocking shots and rebounding. He also displayed nice post moves and was able to finish at ease over the top of everyone. Reginald Kennedy and Elijah Boyle both had a big impact on the game for the Crusaders as they were able to compliment Maleng by hitting tough shots, including a big three from Boyle, and getting to the free throw line.
Both teams have promising underclassmen as well as the older leadership. Elijah James as a rebounding machine and never gave up on any plays tonight, as he started and played great for the Patriots. He is only a sophomore and is having a huge impact on this team. Also previously mentioned, Maleng is only a sophomore and Kennedy is a freshman, this Crusader team is very young and has a lot of potential.
Overall, it was a big time game here in the first round of the tournament and PCW was able to come out on top after a big third quarter with a score of 73-52. Both teams will be in action throughout this upcoming weekend.
