Continue ReadingSand Springs will be an interesting team this year in Class 6A. They might not be a favorite to win the class going into the season, but do not count them out either. They are a team that on any given day could beat any team. They have talented players and the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter but as they say ‘you live and die by the three.’ That could be Sand Springs downfall this year if they can’t hit their shots. They play defense tough and their defense will keep them in any of the games where their shots are not falling but the question is whether it will be enough to win those games. The Sandites play hard on both sides of the ball and do the little things right which will help them. They also have a lot of experience coming back this season that will be able to manage games and know how to react to difficult situations. The Sandites could be a dark horse this year and could pull off some upsets when it comes playoff time.
Players to Watch
Davon Richardson 2020 Sand Springs Wing
Richardson is one of the best players in the 2020 class. He recently committed to the University of Central Oklahoma and will be playing in one of the best conferences in Division II. Richardson is a dangerous player when he can stay out of foul trouble. On too many occasions over the past few years, he has gotten into foul trouble because of the tough defense he plays. If Richardson can learn from his experience and stay out of foul trouble it could be the difference maker for this Sandite team. A lot of the offense runs through Richardson and Minney. They are a tandem that work well together with their inside and outside presence. If Richardson can play to his potential he will make this Sand Springs team that much more dangerous.
Josh Minney 2020 Sand Springs Guard
Minney is a sharpshooter for the Sandites. He often times finds the open spot on the court and will be able to spot up and knock down the jumper whenever his team finds him. He is a sneaky player that goes under the radar sometimes but if you leave him open he will knock down his shot. He also is a valuable player because of his work ethic. He works hard on both sides of the ball.
Cason Savage 2021 Sand Springs Guard
Savage is just another Savage to play for Sand Springs. He played just as well his brothers have in the past. He can shoot the ball well from the perimeter and is not afraid to work hard on both sides of the ball. He plays good defense with fundamentals but the difference maker is his ability on the offensive side of the ball. He is often forgotten about on a team with a lot of shooters which leaves him open to make his mark. He can shoot the ball well or take it to the hoop.
