In the case of 2017 Point Guard George Price, the rich get richer. Price has decided to take his talents to Putnam City West, giving the defending Class 6A State Champions depth and making them a the favorite to repeat.
Price has spent the summer with the PC West program and played grassroots ball with many of his teammates for the upcoming year. Finding his role within a loaded roster has been difficult but Price says with time his role and contributions will increase.
“Obviously coming to team thats coming off a state championship can be difficult for both parties sometimes,” said Price. “But at West it has been good so far. The coaching staff is showing me a lot of love and there already pushing me to be great to bring something to the table for West so I’m looking forward to it.”
We got the chance to heavily evaluate Price over the summer and he is a player who can fill up a stat sheet night in and night out. He has an outstanding handle with a hesitation dribble that allows him to get past just about defender. Price is also one of the better finishers in the game. With the right or with the left he can finish amongst the bigs inside.
The goggles aren’t just for looks either. Price has outstanding court vision and does a great job of not telegraphing every pass. Combine that with his length and progress on the defensive end, and all the tools of an elite point guard are there.
We expect big thing from Price and the Patriots this season and so does he. Price says the ultimate goal is another state championship.
“I expect to be a dominant player on both ends of the floor,” said Price. “I expect my team to have my back and I expect them to encourage me on my good days and bad days because we are a family. I also expect them to know that I have their back because we all have that one goal and that is getting another gold ball for our school. Overall my expectation is to become a state champion.”
A goal that is more than obtainable and by many expected of the Patriots. Graduating only two seniors from last year along with the depth that they have at each position is what has most Patriot fans confident.
Price has gathered a decent amount of attention from his time and Harding Prep and this summer spent with below the rim. A few Division I schools from all across the country have reached out to Price. Standing at 6’1” with tremendous length, Division II and low Division I schools should keep an eye on Price this season.
