Continue ReadingEntering his sophomore year of high school at Olentangy Liberty, Nick Nakasian (2019) is yet to receive interest from college basketball programs. But that’s not something that is going to negatively affect Nakasian. The 6’2” guard plans to simply take care of business.
“I know I have a lot of work cut out for me this season, and I’m excited for it,” Nakasian said.
He began this past summer as a baseball player for the Patriots, joining the Columbus Bears for the grassroots season later on. But Nakasian has decided to not play baseball next year, realizing that he prefers the hardwood exclusively.
“I’m just really hungry to get more work in for basketball. As much as I can to improve myself for next season and the seasons to come.”
In July, Nakasian impressed at the Adidas All In Classic with his three point stroke. While the 4.0 GPA student can definitely hit jumpers, his strengths focus on team success.
“I would describe myself as a disciplined player who works really hard. I think that I have a good understanding of being a team player. I’ve been able to play with a lot of high IQ basketball players in my younger years, and built a lot of understanding of team aspects. About getting other guys open and getting open without the ball, and things like that.”

Whether it’s a conscious strategy or not, Nakasian understands that success comes one step at a time. Next season, his goal is to start varsity, with the goals of playing college ball in sight.
“I just want to work as hard as I can in the classroom and on the court. Whatever offers bring me that way, I want to get the highest education and highest basketball I can,” Nakasian said.
He earned a starting role for Liberty during June, where he performed well. In order to maintain that role Nakasian will have to bring value in an assortment of ways.
“In the high school season, I think I’m going to be needed more as a wing type player. But in the AAU season, I hope to play some wing and maybe some point guard as well … I see myself as probably a combo guard. I think it all depends on what happens these next few years. I just want to be as versatile as possible. As well-rounded as I can,” Nakasian said.
It’s only a matter of time before this stand-out student’s work ethic is brought to the public eye, as he will be a contributing member of the varsity team over the next three seasons. His team-oriented approach to the game is something coaches and teammates will appreciate. Not to mention a killer touch from deep.
