As we prepare for another season, be on the lookout for the upcoming Top 250 Expos in your region. In the mean time, the staff will be hitting you with several preseason nuggets. The purpose of this article is to highlight 12 of the biggest breakout candidates you will find in the state of Maryland.
JAIDEN BUTLER | ST. CHARLES ’21
Butler sat out last season’s regional championship loss to Poly due to injury, and the Spartans missed his presence inside. There should be a path to big minutes for him this year, and after a productive summer, the rising junior should be in good position to capitalize.
ARNARDO CAMACHO | NATIONAL CHRISTIAN ’20
Camacho will bring some NYC flair to the backcourt at NCA. He’s an instinctive playmaker with good size at the lead guard position.
DAOUDA DEMBELE | SPRINGBROOK ’21
Expect Dembele to be one of the most relentless rebounders in Montgomery County this season. The 6-foot-6 forward should be a walking double-double night in and night out.
DAEMOND FORD | WISE ’21
Ford should be an integral piece for the Pumas in the backcourt this season. He contributed last season and will likely be part of the new-look moving forward.
NICK MARSHALL | RIVER HILL ’21
Marshall is a legit D1 guard prospect who should put up big numbers at River Hill. He could be the best young player in Howard County and should be a lot of fun to watch.
WILL MARGARITES | WOOTTON ’21
Margarites will look to play a major role in his first season at Wootton. The point guard prospect is heading into his junior season with a ton of confidence after a strong run of play down the stretch with District Basketball Club.
RYAN PRATHER JR. | CLARKSBURG ’21
Prather had some big games last season, but his consistency will be key. Expect him to not just score consistently but also rebound at a high-level from his wing position.
JABRIL ROBINSON | RICHARD MONTGOMERY ’21
Robinson is much improved since the past high school season and will have plenty of opportunity to produce during his junior season. We expect the skilled guard prospect to step up and have some big games for the Rockets.
ABDOU SAMB | FREDERICK DOUGLASS ’21
Douglass will look to Samb to fortify the interior throughout the upcoming season. The energetic 6-foot-8 big man should be a major impact player on both ends of the floor.
PHILIP STUBIN | WALTER JOHNSON ’21
Stubin is looking like one of the best young guards in Montgomery County. He’ll assume an even bigger role this year after leading WJ to the regional final last season.
JAYLIN WEBSTER | DULANEY ’21
Webster should step up and play an even more significant role in the Lions backcourt this season. His ability to defend, handle, and facilitate will prove useful as they look to return to Xfinity.
THOMAS WHITLEY | ELEANOR ROOSEVELT ’21
Whitley will no doubt be an essential piece for the Raiders during his junior season. His shot-making ability, passing, and versatility on defense at 6-foot-6 should consistently stand out.
