As we prepare for another season, be on the lookout for the upcoming Top 250 Expos in your region. In the mean time, the staff will be hitting you with several preseason nuggets. This series aims to highlight 30 of the best young cores in the DMV. A “young core” consists of players with at least two full years of high school basketball remaining. This includes prospects from the class of 2021 and younger. Here is a brief rundown of #25-21.
#25 FRIENDSHIP TECH (DC)
Defending PCSAA Champions Friendship Tech return some key pieces from last year’s squad and have added a couple more to their young core. Andre Lattimore and Jamiyl Kirkland were a dynamic duo last year. The additions of sharpshooting guard Ya’Quin Staton and bruising big man Gene Anderson should prove significant.
#24 ARHCBISHOP SPALDING (MD)
Spalding has a talented young core with which to build around. Tyheil Peterson and Kyle Gaskins are two confident guards who will continue to gain experience alongside stud wings Cam Whitmore and CJ Scott. Jalen Boughknight, Zakee Wheatley, Leon Elung, and Josh Rivers are some other intriguing young prospects to watch from this youtfhul program.
#23 ST. ANDREW’S (MD)
Benny Williams is one of the best young prospects in the region. Chace Davis and Dylan Edwards are two hard-working guards with some potential and Marcel Gardner is an intriguing post prospect to watch in the future.
#22 GLENELG COUNTRY (MD)
Noah Batchelor is a bonafide high-major wing who has good upside. Cole Paar is an improving post prospect who will play at the Division One level and Gavin Sween is still very raw but his physical profile is impressive.
#21 St. JOHN’S (DC)
Amani Hansberry, Christian Watson, and Shane Lancaster are three very solid young prospects from which the Cadets can build a strong program. Hansberry will handle things down low, Watson will use his athleticism on the wing, especially in transition, and Lancaster could potentially run the show in the backcourt.
