On The Radar (Part II)
Jalen Pitre, 2021, Gahr
Pitre has an intriguing skill set for someone his age, yes, age, not class. Pitre won’t turn 16 until October of his upcoming junior season, which is a far cry from what we’re used to these days. The 6-foot-7 lefty has the size, length and athleticism of a potential Division I wing and thrives in the transition setting. Pitre is capable of knocking down an open 3-point shot with time and space.
Class of 2021 wing Jalen Pitre is one of the younger players in his class and showed that he has plenty of upside to go along with his impressive 6-7 frame.Tyson Degenhart, 2021, Mt. Spokane (WA)
Degenhart is of the throwback type big man mold. He plays with energy, toughness and a relentless motor when attacking the the offensive and defensive glass. The 6-foot-7 rising junior can score with either hand with his back to the basket or face up and take slower-footed defenders off the dribble and finish at the rim.
AJ George, 2021, Fresno Hoover
George has a lot of potential as a long-term point guard prospect. The 6-foot-4 rising junior has all the size, length, vision and feel you’d want in a low to mid-major floor general. The next step for George to reach that potential is to add strength to finish through contact and be more confident with his perimeter jumper.
Jeremy Dent-Smith, 2022, Gardena Serra
Dent-Smith is one of the brightest young point guards in all of SoCal. He plays with an unflappable pace, reads high ball-screen action well, knocks down the open triple when a defender goes under a screen and is a crafty finisher around length and size in the paint.
Myles Phillips, 2021, Bothell (WA)
Phillips was impressive with his speed, but also with his ability to stop on a dime and rise up for a balanced mid-range jumper. The rising junior attacks gaps well because of how quick he can close space with the ball in his hands. His speed also allowed him to put pressure on the rim, draw bigs away from the cup, and find teammates with accouter drop off passes.
