Preview: Prep Hoops Finale 17U Pool A
The Prep Hoops Finale features teams from Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Louisiana. The Tournament will kick off on Friday night at Putnam City High School. The two courts at Putnam City High School will feature the 17U and 16U divisions throughout the weekend.
As we begin featuring each pool in the tournament we highlight 17U Pool A in this article. The 17U Pool A features a stacked deck with the OKC Wizards and Team Griffin both in the same pool. Not to mention a talented team from Tulsa that will surprise many in Playmakers Express Select.
Team Griffin
Team Griffin 17U in the Prep Hoops Finale will feature a young flavor mixed in with several players that competed in the Nike EYBL this year. Oklahoma commit Brady Manek headlines the team on the wing with his effortless scoring abilities. Other EYBL players on the team include 2018 talents Adokiye Iyaye, Mason Harrell, and Carson Mier. Iyaye and Harrell have really stepped their game up over the past three weekends in July. Team Griffin will be a force to reckon with in the Prep Hoops Finale.
OKC Wizards
In any other pool the OKC Wizards would enter as the favorites to win the pool. But with Team Griffin in the pool the Wizards will have their hands full. Don’t be surprised when the Wizards have success with Brantly Thompson and Trenton Crow leading the way. Thompson and Crow have improved immensely over the summer. Thompson is starting to become a threat to shoot the ball from behind the arc. Crow has turned into a sniper from the outside who will make you pay nearly every time if you leave him open. The bigs inside for the OKC Wizards feature several players that could help small colleges in need of size with Anthony Hickman, Braden Bayless and Nathan Cook headlining the paint. A player on the wing that will surprise some schools will be Quinton Johnson with his size, athleticism and crafty moves inside the paint. The OKC Wizards squad certainly has some small college talent.
Playmaker Express Select
Call Playmaker Express Select the wild card in Pool A because they have some talented players that might shock a few. The Point Guard running the show Clint Kelley will lead the attack for the Playmaker Express Select squad. Kelley is coming off a great season at Tahlequah and has continued his scoring ways this summer. When Kelley gets hot from behind the arc lookout. The Playmakers Express Select squad is a gritty tough team that won’t give in easy.
Pool A shapes up to feature some of the best Pool play games of the Prep Hoops Finale. All three are Oklahoma teams with talent on each squad. The schedule for Pool A is posted below.
