Here are the Freshmen who have boosted their stock in my eyes over the course of the month. There are not going to be 2023 rankings until the start of 2020 but there were several kids who caught my eye this month.
Samuel Parrish, Tates Creek – Parrish has the look of being the best freshman in Lexington. He’s still got some growing to do but Sam looks like a big time pure PG who creates offense for others without forcing his own. He even threw down a dunk at the KBC during the Mack, Miller and Lofton event. Looking forward to tracking his development.
Jacob Meyer, Scott – Another guard who came on the scene at the Mack, Miller and Lofton tournament, Meyer is an explosive athlete and plays super hard. Jacob showed a high skill level and is likely going to have to score a lot to carry Scott to a season like they’ve become accustomed to.
Trey Skaggs, Madison Central – Skaggs has been on the radar for a while but continues to show himself as a top 2023 in Kentucky. He’s got a good frame and high IQ and is starting to fill out. The main concern with Trey is how much more he will grow. If he’s done, he’s going to have to show he can guard athletic wings. If he gets a couple more inches taller, he’s a big time stretch 4.
Kaleb Glenn, Male – Speaking of kids who need to grow a little, Kaleb Glenn will be a top 100 player (at worst) in America if he gets to 6’8 or taller. As it stands, Glenn is working on developing more wing skills but is still a dominant post player who is only going to get better. Kaleb is very athletic and continues to improve every time I see him play.
Ian Higdon, North Oldham – While Dallas Roberts gets a lot of pub as a 2023 at North Oldham (and its deserved), Ian Higdon was a pleasant surprise this summer over multiple viewings. He showed ability to play inside and out and generally played pretty hard, taking few plays off. Higdon has good size and is a name to track over the next few years.
Jaylen Davis, Madison Central – Davis already has a scholarship offer from Eastern Kentucky but he should have more college suitors coming down the line. Jaylen is very long and looks like he’s going to be a big wing when his body starts to fill out. Look for Jaylen to be a little bit slower to develop than some of these kids because he is a younger kid in the class but his potential is near the top of the list in 2023.
Bradin Nelson, Webster County – Nelson really impressed me at WKU team camp. He dominated his age group while playing freshmen games and then he was a very solid role player at the varsity level that weekend. Bradin has good length and solid skill level. He’s a name to keep an eye on in Western Kentucky over the next few years.
