“My strong suits are shooting and handling the ball,” Powell said. “I also have good court vision.”
Powell played a dominant role in the Maroons’ success last season. The player averaged 17.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest and dished out a significant amount of assists. This year, Powell wants to, well, win.
“This season, I want to win the Region Championship and get to Rupp Arena,” Powell stated.
Powell played for VCC Nova and the Louisville Lighting on the AAU Circuit this summer. He says he played well.
“I played for VCC Nova and Louisville Lightning,” Powell told me. “I performed really well, I think. I picked up all of my interests from AAU.”
Although he doesn’t have any offers yet, Powell says he has been shown interest from Pikeville, West Virginia Tech, Shawnee State, Alderson Broaddus and Kentucky Wesleyan, and says more coaches and programs should start to reach out because he is a winner.
“I think my game should catches college coaches’ eyes because I feel like I’m a good shooter with good court vision,” Powell stated. “I play to win – not to make my stats look good. And I work hard to the best of my ability and I use basketball as a tool to glorify Him. And I think I can bring strong leadership to a team.”
In the classroom, Powell told me he works hard and sports a 3.89 GPA.
Powell is going to do whatever it takes to make sure he will one day play at the next level.
