Continue ReadingIt took some time, but Jusaun Holt is finally getting recognition state-wide as one of the best 2021 prospects in Georgia. He is a unique prospect who doesn’t need the ball in hands a ton to make a big impact on each game. Holt has made his mark with efficiency and versatility, hurting opponents with his skill at 6’6” and not wasting any opportunities. After playing well at Georgia Tech’s team camp two weekends ago, Holt was offered by the Yellow Jacket staff. That is a great starting point for a player who should continue to get lots of traffic in June and July. Here is the latest on Holt and what’s ahead for him.
Playing for a St. Francis team that won the A-Private State Championship and includes top PG Dwon Odom, Holt has learned quickly how to make his presence felt without dominating the ball. I always know what I’m going to get from Holt whenever I watch him. He is a threat for 15-20 points. 10+ rebounds, and multiple 3’s every single game. He was productive throughout the high school season, but has taken things to another level this spring with the Atlanta Celtics. Their team has taken on numerous top teams and Holt has impressed at each stop. When discussing the travel season, Holt said “I feel that the spring travel season went pretty good for me, although I could have some things better. I think that I proved I can shoot the 3 more than anything.” Holt has always been a respectable 3-point shooter, but the last few months he has been even more aggressive looking for his shot while still shooting a solid percentage. I’ve mentioned this before, but I think my favorite quality of Holt’s is his nonstop activity. He is always sneaking in for offensive rebounds, running the floor, and making plays on both ends that contribute to winning. “I bring energy to a team and also great communication and defense,” he said. Holt knows his points will come and looks to get himself going in other areas first.
I’ve held the opinion that Holt is a Top 10 prospect in Georgia’s 2021 class for a while, which made his lack of recruitment prior to the Georgia Tech offer pretty confusing. A lot of recruiting is about playing well at the right time, in the right place, in front of the right people, and that’s exactly what Holt did in McCamish Pavilion to start off June. “It felt amazing to receive an offer from Georgia Tech, it was cool for an ACC school to be my first offer,” he said. Hopefully this offer will put other schools on notice and help to elevate his recruitment. Considering some of the other 2021 prospects in the state who already have multiple offers, Holt is deserving of more attention. Although he is ahead of most others, he knows there is more work to be done, saying “I want to work on my ball-handling and explosiveness to add to my game.” Holt will be in both the Georgia Live Period Team Camp and Georgia’s Top 100 camp, which will be great settings to be seen and prove himself.
Now that 2021 prospects can be freely contacted as of June 15th, Holt should be hearing from a nice host of programs. The way he plays and approaches the game has him in good position for success when he eventually enters the college ranks. People talk about doing the little things and doing what coaches like, and that’s exactly what he does. Size, skill, activity, he has it. Holt has quickly made a name for himself, but I think he’s just getting started.
