College Commitment: Trevon Richmond (2019 Jefferson)
The recruiting process dragged on but Trevon Richmond stayed the course. The lanky 6-foot, 150-pound guard saw the light at the end of the tunnel and followed it late last week to his college destination for the next two years. Richmond has signed with Bellevue CC and he’s ready to get things going for the next two years.
“I took a visit down there last weekend with head coach Brady and my mom and dad liked the campus a lot,” Richmond said. “Coach was talking to me on what he was looking for next season and it was a point guard that defends extremely hard, looks for his own shot, and makes his teammates be successful. So that will be my role coming in.”
The signing ends a recruiting journey that seemed to lead to a lot of dead ends as Richmond had talked to a number of Division II schools that didn’t quite pan out. Thankfully Bellevue was there for him and in the end that’s all that mattered.
“I just felt like this was the best situation for me right now,” Richmond said. “The (other) colleges just stopped showing interest in me and told me ‘we’re not interested in you anymore so we’re done recruiting’. That motivated me a lot and I especially have an extra chip on my shoulder when I start playing again.”
Richmond noted that he’s done with AAU basketball with Deep III and he will now focus on getting ready for what’s ahead of him at the next level.
“Just getting stronger,” Richmond said. “That’s one of the reasons why I came to Bellevue, which is to get way bigger and more athletic. I feel like when I do that, it’s gonna be a wrap.”
Richmond ranks as the #21 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
