The 6-foot-4 Dunlap – the son of Cal State Northridge assistant coach Jeff Dunlap – plans to attend Hart High in Newhall.
Long known as one of the better basketball prospects in his age group since his family moved to SoCal about a year ago when Mark Gottfried hired his father, Dunlap – a quarterback – plans to also play football and volleyball.
So, his fall, winter and spring are pretty much covered, right?
Dunlap was one of several standouts from the Class of 2023 during the May 18 Pangos “Best of SoCal Spring Showcase” in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church gymnasium.
He scored 17 points (with three 3s) in the 2023 game that tipped things off and stepped into the 2022 clash, as well, and scored 16 more.
The top scorer in the 2023 game was Zachary Davidson (his brother, Nick, played a lot for Mater Dei as a sophomore this past season), with 23 points.
He’s going to make a serious run for some playing time as a Mater Dei freshman next winter.
Other standouts included 6-foot-8 Jazz Gardner (his father, Jelani, was a standout player at Cal and Pepperdine) and 5-11 Jared McCain (originally from Sacramento but now lives in Corona).
Gardner scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while McCain (a standout for the Compton Magic 15U squad who plans to attend Centennial in Corona) scored 21 points with three 3s.
