It’s grassroots season, after all.
Lipsey, one of Iowa’s best 2022 prospects, will compete this weekend at the NY2LA event with All Iowa Attack with a number of high-majors keeping close tabs.
“I know I have some coaches coming to watch this weekend. Iowa, Nebraska will be there and maybe Wisconsin and Michigan,” he said. “I’m really excited for this AAU season, just going out and competing with my team and having fun.”
Iowa State and Nebraska have already offer the 6-foot-2 point guard, and a big spring could lead to plenty more coming his way. Aside from a busy weekend, it’s already been a hectic spring for Lipsey, who was in Minneapolis earlier this month with 21 other top players in his class for USA Basketball minicamp during the Final Four.
“That was amazing,” he said. “Being able to watch the Final Four games, a lot of fans come to those games – a sold out crowd. We had a lot of great practices, got to practice at the Timberwolves practice facility. It prepares you for the next level.”
He’s not done with Team USA this spring as Lipsey, who led Ames with 17 ppg last season, also earned an invitation to training camp for the U16 FIBA Americas Championships. Twelve players will be selected for the team that will compete in Brazil in June.
For now, though, Lipsey’s focus is on Milwaukee and All Iowa Attack.
“Just go in there with my team, play as heard as we can, win as many games as we can and feel good about how we did,” he said. “We don’t have to be the best team. We don’t have to be perfect, but you want to be good with watch you did.”
In addition to playing with Attack, Lipsey will also run with Howard Pulley out of Minneapolis. He’ll suit up with the Panthers next in Indianapolis at the EYBL’s second session.
