As a former player, I love watching guys get after it on the defensive end with grit, versatility, and most importantly hustle. All of the guys below impressed me doing just that. Here were my top defensive performers from the Bearcat Classic on Sunday.
Allen Latimore (2020) Stivers- Team Flyght
Latimore impressed me during the high school season with his on-the-ball defensive play. Possessing great footwork and high IQ defensive play, Latimore continued his toughness during the Grassroots play on Sunday.
Blake Miller (2020) Northmor- Mid Ohio Magic
One of the better shot blockers I saw Sunday, Miller had arguably the best block of the day, sending a Brady Uhl (2020) layup into the Shining Star s bench during their matchup. A lengthy, physical forward, Blake moves very well and has a nice vertical jump.
Hunter Drenth (2020) Revere – SMAC Primetime
Drenth is listed as a 6’8 forward, but he has the footwork of a guard. An athletic playmaker, Drenth played nice help-side defense and has the vertical leap I’m sure he can be a force at protecting the rim. Versatile enough to defend multiple positions.
Isaiah Moore (2021) St. Xavier – Cincinnati Heat
I will go out on a limb and say Isaiah was the best defensive player I saw on Sunday. His on-the-ball defense was great as he was able to keep with his assignment and moved well. What I like most was his hustle. Getting after loose balls and not taking a play off.
DeAirius Barker (2020) – Apex 17U Gold
With all the frontcourt talent on this Apex roster, it was nice to see a backcourt player making plays as well. Barker moved well laterally on the defensive end and used his speed to keep up with his assignments defensively.
