Head Coach: Damon Jones
Coach Jones is currently the Head JV Coach and assistant Varsity at Hope College. This is his first-year coaching with Michigan Basketball Academy.
Jones played professionally for three years. He was a member of Danish Cup and COPA winners in Denmark and Spain, respectively. He also was the top scorer in his Irish League with 30 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.
Jones led NCAA Division II Mercyhurst University (Pennsylvania) to its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title during the 2015-16 seasons. He led the Lakers to their first NCAA tournament appearances as a junior and senior.
Jones finished his playing career at Mercyhurst University and Mercyhurst North East as a 1,000-point scorer in college.
Player Overview
Riley Fields – “Skilled and crafty with a high IQ, nonchalant yet a very good handle and can shoot the 3 with the best of them in the greater Grand Rapids area. Nearly impossible to guard around the ball screen and sees the floor well in transition.”
Chris Battiste – “A 6’3” skilled leader who can bang with the bigs but flourishes on the wing. Very athletic and great in transition, just about does everything well! Overall, a coach’s dream!”
Koby Vanderwoude – “Returning from a neck injury Koby defines toughness. Has the ability to takeover games and become un-guardable with his range and knack to score. Exceptional in transition!”
Austin Van Elst – “A 6’6” athletic stretch 4 with a high motor and determination. With a variety of dunks both in the half court and transition, expect some highlights this AAU season from Austin!”
Gabe Quillan – “Standing at 6’8” the AAU scene is not ready for Mr. Quillan! Runs the floor like a wing with D1 size and soft hands around the basket. Very high ceiling for this young man.”
Clay Lake – “A 6’4” who looks like a Big but plays like a guard. Exceptional skill and quickness with his size and length. Fought some injuries at Byron Center but is healthy and dangerous in all areas of the game.”
Andrew Larson – “A 6’4” lengthy bruiser with the ability to soar! A matchup nightmare for opponents as he has the ability to burn you from the outside, or muscle you down low. Excellent body control and poise for his size/length.”
Jashon Large – “Re-classing from Grand River Prep, this lightning quick combo guard brings both skill and IQ to the backcourt. One of the quickest first steps around with the ability to pass, finish over bigger defenders, as well as hit multiple 3’s against opponents. Jashon will be playing with Grand Rapids Angels homeschool program next season.”
Jared Endsley – “A 6’2” pass first playmaker who attained All Regional Team the past two years, while being honor with Freshman of the year (2017-2018) for the Grand Rapids Angels homeschool program. Very athletic with an extremely high IQ, he makes his teammates much better!”
MBA Director – Bryan Powell (2nd year as MBA Director)
