It’s his diverse set of skills that makes him one of Georgia’s most impressive young playmakers. McConnell is able to score off the bounce, and is a more than capable outside shooter.
His ability to set teammates up for success also helps him to be a well-rounded player.
“I’m a pass-first guard but can score at will when I need to. I feel like I have nice and tight handles and also a consistent shot,” said McConnell. “And I’m mostly working to improve my defense, but I’m working on every aspect of my game as well.”
As a sophomore at Mill Creek, McConnell flourished, especially once he got used to the flow of varsity hoops.
“The speed of the game was different but I was still able to adapt and average a good amount of assists, points and steals,” McConnell said. “I felt like I had a good sophomore season, although I wish that we would have made it farther in the playoffs.”
This spring and summer he’ll play with Team YRN 16U. McConnell says he’s hoping to pick up, at the very least, some interest from D1 programs.
“My plans are to workout on my own during off days from AAU. And to just travel around the country and play in front of many college coaches,” he said.
“I’m hoping to receive at least one D1 offer or some interest by the end of the AAU season.”
