Prep Hoops Wisconsin was able to interview the Denmark star as he looks to make his college decision.
Short’s lack of a commitment has not come from a lack of college offers. “I’ve received an offer from NAIA D2 Olivet Nazarene. NAIA D2 Cardinal Stritch is interested and my favorite D3 schools are Ripon, WLC, and Loras College in Iowa,” said Short.
Zane Short has a unique skill set that will help him succeed at the next level. “I think being able to play the 1-3 and a little bit of the 4 effectively at 6’5-6.” I am a big guard at 220 pounds. Driving to the rim and creating space on shots is easier for me. Finishing around the hoop and above the rim is easier for me, especially in transition. Defending my position is a little easier too because I’m most times bigger than the person I’m guarding.” Short’s frame will certainly be something that will set him apart once he gets on a college campus.
Short, like many other top prospects, attempts to model his game after some of the best players that basketball has to offer. “I’m a huge fan of facilitators,” Short stated. “Especially at the higher levels. I love watching Lonzo Ball pass. I try to have vision like him. As far as defensively I’ve always been a huge fan of Patrick Beverley and his fire. Offensively I was obsessed with Jamal Crawford growing up. He’s who I try to mirror on offense.” Short has already been able to successfully mimic aspects of these players, but if he continues to do this, he could be a force to be reckoned with in college.
According to the forward, playing high school basketball was an amazing experience. And playing in college could be even more special for him. “High school basketball has been an amazing outlet and experience for me to grow as a person and keep me in shape and having fun for the last ten years. Playing in college will be another awesome and exciting part of my life. New connections and new people as well as giving me an opportunity to play the game Love. It would mean everything.”
Before Zane gets to play college basketball, he would like to improve his jump shot. “I can hit, but I’m streaky. Some games I hit 6 threes. Some games I hit 1. That’s something I would like to improve.”
In the final question of the interview, I asked Zane why he thinks a college should take a chance on him. Here is how he responded: “What you see is what you get. Never anything less. I put a lot of passion into what I do. There’s no guessing what type of person and player you’re getting with me. I’m the same guy day in and day out. I can learn fast and I think I’ve got a great IQ of the game. Can’t wait to get to the next level and prove myself.”
Zane Short has the potential to blossom into a terrific player at the next level. If you are a fan of quality basketball players, you will fall in love with Zane Short.
