1. McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Georgia) 32-0 Class 7A Champions
The McEachern Indians have completed the perfect season finishing the year with an amazing 32-0 record and capturing the schools first ever basketball state title. They are the first team in Cobb County to bring back home Georgia’s highest classification basketball title since Wheeler High School back in 2015. 2020 PG Sharife Cooper, Auburn commit 2019 F Isaac Okoro, 2019 G Alyn Breed, and 2019 PG Quinton McElroy will finish their careers together with an 87-4 overall record in a McEachern uniform. The Indians are expected now to compete in the 2019 GEICO Nationals in New York, New York in April.
2. Buford High School (Buford, Georgia) 28-2 Class 5A Champions
The Buford Wolves captured their second state championship title in the last three years. Oklahoma State commit 2019 F Marcus Watson finished the season with a monster 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead his squad to a state title and his second over Fayette County High School. Head Coach Eddie Martin is one heck of a coach and has this Buford basketball program as one of the best programs in the state. Their lone losses this year were too Carmel Christian (NC) and Loganville High School.
3. Morgan County High School (Madison, Georgia) 30-2 Class 4A Champions
Coach Sims and his Morgan County program have captured their third state title in the last six years and the first one since 2016. The Bulldogs have made their mark, not only in South Georgia, but in the state of Georgia as a whole and have been one of the most consitent basketball progams in the state over the last few years. It was without question that Morgan County were the favorites to win the class 3A state title, as I have been bragging about all season long.
4. Meadowcreek High School (Norcross, Georgia) 26-6 Class 7A Runner-Ups
The 2017-2018 class 7A state champions, Meadowcreek, unfortunately could not hold on to their title against the nations number team McEachern High School in the class 7A state championship game. The Mustangs finished the season with a 26-6 overall record and even though they did not go home with another state title, the Mustangs have a very good season. Their big three of UAB commit 2019 PG Jalen Benjamin, Temple commit 2019 SG Damian Dunn, and South Florida commit 2019 F Jamir Chaplin had a tremendous year and will go out as some of the best prospects out of Meadowcreek High School.
5. Norcross High School (Norcross, Georgia) 22-9 Class 7A Final Four
The Norcross Blue Devils did not make the state title game for the first time ever since 2016. In the last two seasons, Norcross has made the class 7A state championship game but both were loses. The Blue Devils finished the season with a solid 22-9 overall record after starting the season 0-2. The Blue Devils will always be competitive and one of the states best basketball programs with all the talent they have produced over the years. They were eliminated this year by McEachern, a team they defeated in last year’s elite eight, 66-62 in overtime in the class 7A final four a week ago.
7. Tift County High School (Tifton, Georgia) 21-8 Class 7A Final Four
Tift County High School HC Chris Wade were looking like they were on another championship run this season after pulling upsets over top progams in Wheeler and Discovery. That eventually came to an end as they fell to Meadowcreek High School in their final four game. Tift County has always been known to come alive during state playoff time. The Blue Devils have won two state titles in the last six seasons in Georgia’s highest classification (2014, 2017). The question is now, will Tift County be back for more next season? That is something we will have to find out in the future.
8. Grayson High School (Loganville, Georgia) 25-4 Class 7A Sweet 16
The Grayson High School Rams had their best season this year for the first time in awhile, record wise that is. The Rams were at the top of Georgia’s top ten list basically all season but due to how the GHSA seeds the playoffs, they were eliminated by powerhouse Norcross High School in the sweet 16 round. 2020 PG Deivon Smith put on an outstanding year for Grayson and is now a nationally known prospect. HC Geoffrey Pierce has been growing this Grayson program year after year and has done a great job with the program. Will the Rams be back to make a run next season?
9. St Francis (Alpharetta, Georgia) 28-4 Class A-Private Champions
The St. Francis Knights have captured their third state championship in the last six seasons and have been certified as one of Georgia’s powerhouse programs. This year they were led by Xavier commit 2020 PG Dwon Odom and he will be back for more next season. The Knights finish their season with a 28-4 overall record and were battle tested all season long playing some of the best teams in the state.
10. Fayette County High School (Fayetteville, Georgia) 25-6 Class 5A Runner-Ups
Some of you probably have not heard of Fayette County High School at all this year, well now you do. The Fayette County Tigers were one of the best teams this season all year long and were floating around that top ten ranking all season. The Tigers unfortunately lost to Buford High School in the class 5A state title game and it sure was a dog fight. This Fayette County squad will be losing some key seniors and pieces from this team but we should be on the lookout for them again next season and they will be prepared to make some more noise.
