Southwest Dekalb and Buford High School are expected to tip off at 4pm local time and the winner will be punching their ticket to the state championship game in Macon, Georgia next Friday night.
The Buford High School Wolves come into this one with a 27-2 overall record and have been led this season by Oklahoma State commit 2019 F Marcus Watson. The 6-foot-6 forward has not received the recognition he is supposed to be receiving, especially with the job he has done so far in his senior campaign. Buford has battled some tough programs in state and out of state all season long and have really breezed thorughout the state playoffs beating all of their opponents by 15 or more.
Southwest Dekalb has had a different story this year. HC Eugene Brown and his squad have battled through injuries and eligibility issuies all season with players and it just amazing how they are still in contention for a state title. 2020 PG KD Johnson has been a stud for this squad and very good leader at that all sesaon. Johnson has literally carried this squad this year alongside 2019 F James Glisson III. The Panthers have had three close battles during their title run and recently coming back and taking the win over Woodland-Henry High School aftering being down as much as 18 in the third quarter.
This matchup should be interesting and could draw a pretty heavy crowd at Columbus State University. HC Eugene Brown of Southwest Dekalb tells me that 2020 W Eugene Brown III could be returning Saturday afternoon from his injury. Just a couple of months ago, Brown caught an injury during a region matchup and has been out since then. Eugene will be a big boost to this Southwest Dekalb squad if he decides to play on Saturday.
