Pickerington North’s 6-foot-4 small forward Dondre Palmer is continuing to hear from low-major Division I and Division II programs as he heads into his 16U summer.
“I have a bunch of letters and questionnaires for like; Miami (Ohio), Ashland, Findlay, St. Francis, I’ve received some interest from High Point, and that’s all I can think of,” said Palmer.
“It’s pretty much just letters for now. I’m trying to set up where I can go to an Ohio game or practice, but I need to set that up when I’m not as busy.”
The versatile 2018 wing is hoping that he can pick up some offers this summer, but knows he still has some time for everything to materialize.
“I just hope that before the summer is over I can receive an offer from some school; Division I, Division II, and then just keep building up on that.”
He mentioned to PHO what it is he’s really been working on to improve his skill-set.
“I’ve been really, really trying to improve on rebounding and stuff, and throughout the course of my sophomore season at Pickerington North I did that -- I was rebounding a lot more,” said Palmer. “And then my one-dribble and two-dribble pull-up I improved on that over the year. And finishing through contact has definitely been a big thing I improved from last year to this year,”
As a sophomore with the Tigers, Palmer came off the bench as the sixth-man, he says he was an energy guy, and more.
“My role on that team was to just come off the bench and be a spark, mostly just a role player -- bring energy to the table and all that kind of stuff,” said Palmer, who now heads into his 16U summer.
He has a little bit of his own agenda for his summer months though, and while others are focusing on grassroots ball, Palmer is focusing on his individual workouts.
“For the summer I’m going to be doing 6 AM to 8 AM workouts Monday through Thursday, and I’m going to hope to improve my ball-handling and one-on-one moves -- stuff like that,” said Palmer who says he may play with Nova Village this summer too.
“And I’m going to do some weight-training and try and gain 15 pounds before the season starts. So my main goals are ball-handling, try to become a guard, and weight-training, just trying to bulk-up.”
