We are a couple of games away from the regular high school basketball season being over in Texas. Yesterday I had the opportunity to travel to Fort Worth to check out a talented OD Wyatt team take on Northside. Here are some of my thoughts and takeaways after covering the Tuesday night matchup.
OD Wyatt’s Backcourt Is Loaded
Damon Gentry, Jacobi Lewis and Kendall Fair are skilled sophomore playmakers that can get shots for themselves and for others. The three guards were outstanding versus North Shore on both ends of the floor. The three backcourt mates have a lot of similarities in terms of skills, but they also have some differences in their games as well. Gentry, Lewis and Fair have a chance to help their OD Wyatt squad make a deep playoff run if they keep playing well.
Toney Green Is The Real Deal
O.D. Wyatt has a talented backcourt, but it doesn’t stop there. Sophomore forward Toney Green may possibly be OD Wyatt Chaparrals’s most promising prospect. Green is a good slasher from the wing that can handle it and is a willing passer. Green did a little bit of everything for his team on Tuesday night, and proved to me that he is definitely a top 50 prospect in the state for his class.
Other Notables…
North Side suffered a tough 85-45 loss versus OD Wyatt, but it didn’t stop North Side guard Javi Hernandez from having a big night on the offensive end. Hernandez shot the ball well and was in attack mode from start to finish. The unsigned senior finished with a team high 22 points.
