Tuttle’s Rouse Hits 1K
Tuttle point guard Garrett Rouse became the latest member of the Oklahoma thousand-point club last week in a win over Blanchard.
Rouse is in his fourth season as a starter for the now 13-4 Tigers, moving to Tuttle entering his freshman year. At the time, he did not not realize his scoring potential, he said.
“I mean I was just worried about trying to do what coach wanted,” said Rouse. “towards the end of my freshman year is when I started scoring the ball well.”
After finding his groove, scoring became easier for Rouse, he said.
Rouse did not realize that he hit one thousand points until after the game against Blanchard, rather than the moment it happened.
“I knew I was close, but I wasn’t sure the exact amount,” Rouse said.
Rouse had plenty of thanks to give after reaching the milestone.
“Just my parents being behind me,” Rouse said, “and my assistant coach Layman. . . he has been by my side all four years and always pushes me to be better.”
The Tigers currently sit at thirteenth in 4A Oklahoma basketball. Two of its four losses come to the first-ranked team in 4A, while the other two come from other formidable 4A opponents. The Tigers’ best win to this point, perhaps, came in the championship game of the Weatherford Tournament, where the Tigers knocked off 4A No. 3 John Marshall.
With the postseason just around the corner, Rouse plans for a big playoff run for his Tigers, he said. The senior point guard wants to hoist a Gold Ball at the end of the season.
Rouse holds offers from Bethel College, Kansas Wesleyan, Knox College, and Redlands, but has no lead to this point in his recruiting process.
