Division l
Canal Winchester – Canal Winchester is off to a steaming 8-0 start through the New Year. With their signature win this far being over the 6-3 Dublin Scioto team. The Indians still have the heart of their schedule approaching and will need 2019 G Brady Snyder to continue his stellar play, averaging about 20 PPG.
Delaware Hayes – The Pacers from Delaware are off to a smooth 7-1 start in the OCC-Cardinal. Delaware is led by the triple-threat combination of Nate Griggs, Terin Kinsway and Paul Burris, who all average more then 12 PPG. With good victories over Buckeye Valley, Dublin Scioto and Thomas Worthington already, Hayes will look to take down unbeaten Hilliard Bradley in a big time matchup Friday night.
Division ll:
DeSales – Off to a 5-3 start in the CCL, DeSales has played some pretty good basketball. Having been in all of their losses, including Johnstown, a Division Three favorite. Also adding a nice win over Bishop Hartley, DeSales still faces the tough part of their schedule in January. Leading DeSales thus far has been the 6’2 senior Kayin Derden, averaging upward of 18 points a game.
Hamilton Township – Playing in the MSL-Buckeye, Hamilton Township is right where they want to be at 7-2 about two months into the season. With a good win over Amanda Clearcreek and a not so easy schedule this far, Hamilton will look to ride the stud duo of Marquis Moore and Tyler Block the rest of the season. Both players averaging about 13 PPG so far to pace the MSL squad.
Division lll:
Marion Pleasant – The Spartans from Marion County are off and running at 6-1 on the season. With a good win over the one-loss North Union squad the Spartans could be the favorite to win the MOAC. The senior tandem of Ethan Warner, Nick Kimmel and Gage Williams has carried the Spartans, all averaging double-digits in PPG.
Worthington Christian – Sitting at 7-2 in the MSL-Ohio, Worthington Christan has rode a high powered scoring effort night in and night out. Led by 2022 G DJ Moore who is averaging a big 19 PPG on the season. With a not so tough schedule this far, continue to watch the team from Worthington as they go down the stretch.
With the season still relatively young, a lot can change. But thus far, these teams have been pretty hot. Watch closely as these under the radar teams look to finish the second half of the season on a strong note.
