Santa’s Helpers: Top Unsung Passers
While Santa has come and gone, the narrative involves plenty of unsung heros. Below are prospects who are some of the most unsung in the state. They get their teammates involved and put them in spots where they can be successful. Unfortunately, this can be a thankless skill for many prospects. These guys make their teammates better while receiving nowhere near enough recognition for their efforts.
Dayton Harris 6’2 PG 2020 Skyline
Skyline is on a roll and on a phenomenal run. Harris is a huge part of that. The group has more scoring options than it has had in the past which has enabled Harris to put his teammates in spots where they can score the basketball effectively. Harris has been an effective facilitator who has made his teammates better. In order for Skyline to continue to have success, Harris will need to keep making plays for himself and others.
Vean Simon 6’1 SG 2019 Chandler
Simon has taken on a different role for Chandler than he had in the past. Due to his ability to step into this role and have a lot of success, Chandler has made huge strides forward. This group is looking dangerous at the end of December and Simon’s passing has played a vital role in that. In addition to being an under the radar passer, Simon has turned into a stat sheet stuffer. Continue to monitor his success as the role he plays for Chandler is vital to whatever success they will have in February.
Jeffery Thomas 5’8 PG 2019 Palo Verde
Thomas first caught my attention over the summer while participating with Powerhouse. He is crafty and quite athletic. Thomas is a skilled guard who can impact the game in an array of ways despite being undersized. As a passer, he makes those around him better and hits his targets on time and in the right spot. He is able to get into the paint seemingly at will due to his quickness, and he makes the right reads when the help side rotates. Palo Verde is off to a hot start with a lot of thanks being to Thomas’ skilled passing abilities.
Mekhi Rodgers 5’11 PG 2019 McClintock
McClintock is one of the top teams in 5A. While Josh Baker gets a lot of the credit due to his shooting abilities, Rodgers does a good job of executing the offense and putting his teammates in spots where they can be successful. Rodgers is the guys who is responsible for running the show for the group of talented prospects who comprise McClintock. He executes this role at a high level and does not make a lot of mistakes with the basketball.
Jordan Wollangk 5’10 PG 2020 Mesquite
Wollangk has progressed substantially as a player. He has gone from being a knockdown shooter to a point guard who is capable of running an offense and making great decisions with the basketball. Further, he is still a more than capable shooter. Wollangk is as important to whatever success Mesquite has as any prospect on the team. He has been relied upon more heavily than initially anticipated coming into this season, and he has done a solid job.
