Continue ReadingThe Mabee Center at Oral Roberts University was overflowing with high school hoops talent in the 2018 Tournament of Champions last Thursday through Saturday. Teams from classes A through 6A came to prove their dominance and dynasty against willing and equal foes. Players established their names among TOC royalty with big-time individual performances all weekend. With one of the best TOC fields in recent years, this is the Prep Hoops Oklahoma All-Tournament team selected from the best juniors and seniors from the TOC. A second and third team is available here, and an All-Underclassmen team is available here.
MVP
Jr. Bryce Thompson — Booker T. Washington
26 PPG / 5.3 APG / 5RPG
Junior guard Bryce Thompson was dominant for the championship-winning Hornets of Booker T. Washington. Thompson was the second-leading scorer in the TOC while orchestrating the Hornet offense. Bryce Thompson was, perhaps, the most talented independent scoring guard in the TOC — that is, having the capacity to create shots off the dribble and sink them. Thompson had 78 points on the weekend, and many, if not most of those points came from straight iso-ball. Defensively, he was able to get steals, blocks, and limit opposing scorers.
FIRST TEAM
Sr. Keylan Boone — Tulsa Memorial
18.3 PPG / 10 RPG / 3.3 APG
Senior Oklahoma State signee Keylan Boone, a 6-foot-7 wing, was a versatile swingman for the Chargers, who finished as runners up in the TOC. Averaging a double-double in points and boards, Boone not only had big weekend as big, but also picked up floor general responsibilities and made his share of great passes.
Sr. Kalib Boone — Tulsa Memorial
16.3 PPG / 10 RPG / 5 BPG
Kalib Boone was a monster in the paint at the TOC. No team quite had an answer to effectively limit the 6-foot-9, future Oklahoma State forward. Consequently, Boone gave up no easy shots in the paint and was a ferocious rim protector.
Sr. Jacob Germany — Kingston
18 PPG / 16.3 RPG
Jacob Germany had the tenth-best rebounding weekend in TOC history, including the fourth-best individual rebounding game in TOC history against Fort Cobb-Broxton. Germany, a 6-foot-11 UTSA signee, was as important to his team as any other player, allowing the Redskins to get second chances and keep opposing teams from going on scoring runs.
Sr. Kellen Hines — Fort Cobb-Broxton
31 PPG / 5.6 RPG
Kellen Hines had a tournament-high 93 points as he led the first-ranked Fort Cobb-Broxton Mustangs to a sixth-place finish. Hines finished just 7 points shy of the prestigious 100-point club, a feat that only 14 players have accomplished in the TOC. His biggest moment of the tournament came when he started 4-4 from the field en route to an early 9-2 lead over Kingston to keep the Mustangs’ hopes alive in the consolation game.
Sr. Trey Green — Kingfisher
24 PPG
The third-leading scorer in the 2018 TOC, Trey Green lit up the scoring books each day with pivotal performances for the Yellow Jackets. Green did so shooting 60 percent from the field, with his most impressive performance coming against Kingston in the first round, where he scored 27 points on 9 shots, including a perfect 5-5 from the 3-point line.
