Georgia’s Top Sidekicks
At times, we spend so much time focused on Batman that we forget about Robin. These players are not the number one option but play a critical role in their team’s success. Here are some of the top “sidekicks” in the state of Georgia:
Alyn Breed (McEachern)– Alyn Breed proved he can play with the best of the best last week at The City of Palms Classic, where he averaged 12 points per game in the nation’s premiere high school tournament. Breed is a perfect complement to Sharife Cooper in the backcourt as he is streaky from the perimeter. He is the unsung hero of this undefeated McEachern squad, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up next year.
Ben Sheppard (Greater Atlanta Christian)– In my opinion, Sheppard has had the most impressive shooting performance of the season thus far. Against Lithonia, he hit 6 threes in the first half and ended with 30 points for the game. Already committed to D-1 Belmont University, Sheppard is an elite guard who will be a solid four-year player. Joined with Hunter McIntosh in the backcourt, they make a case for one of the best duos in the state.
DeAndre Brown (Holy Spirit Prep)– DeAndre Brown has highly impressed this season playing alongside five-star recruit, Anthony Edwards. He is an athletic point guard who can do a little bit of everything. The lefty knocks down open shots, creates off the dribble, and is a smooth finisher in the open court. With Holy Spirit playing a national schedule, Brown is a critical piece to their team’s success.
Ian Schieffelin (Grayson)– Schieffelin was a key factor in Grayson’s win over top-ranked Meadowcreek last week. He ended the game with 16 points, including 4 made three pointers and a four-point play. Schieffelin knocked down shots when the defense collapsed on Deivon Smith and even came down with a few impressive rebounds. The future looks very bright for the 6’7 sophomore.
Sam Hines (Wheeler)– Hines is the ultimate glue guy. He rebounds, hustles, and finishes at a high level for Wheeler. What Roscoe Eastmond does in the backcourt, Hines matches in the frontcourt. Hines played well at the Hawks Naismith Classic and also finished with 25 points last week against Southwest DeKalb at the TOC Holiday Classic. Look for Hines’ stock to rise after his impressive showings.
