Rancho Christian won the BattleZONE championship with a 56-54 win over host Corona Centennial. USC-bound forward Isaiah Mobley took home MVP honors for the Eagles.
Anthony Bell, Chino Hills
Bell is another guy who falls under the category of “under-appreciated” for his team because he’s not always scoring in double figures or grabbing double-digit rebounds. But Bell, a transfer from Etiwanda, was just the player the Huskies needed this year with his toughness on the defensive side and ability to hit the open 3-point shot. Bell scored 17 points in Chino Hills’ third-place win over Rancho Verde.
Phaquon Davis, Chino Hills
Davis was another guy who came up clutch for the Huskies against Rancho Verde. He knocked down four 3-pointers en route to 14 points and his floor spreading prowess comes in handy when teams double and triple down on Onyeka Okongwu.
Jordan Montgomery, Rancho Christian
Montgomery’s job is simple: Be smart with the ball, play under control, guard the other team’s best ball handler and knock down the open triple when it’s there. Montgomery did all of that last week in helping the Eagles through its championship run. Montgomery scored 11 points in the semifinals and added six in the title game, including a clutch 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.
Allan McBride, Corona Centennial
McBride goes a little bit under-the-radar because of the fact that he’s not an exorbitant stat sheet stuffer. Instead, McBride does a little bit of everything with his offensive and defensive rebounding, finishing in the paint, and providing the energy and hustle plays needed to gut out victories.
DJ Carter-Hollinger, Foothills Christian
Carter-Hollinger is another do-everything type of guy. The 6-foot-5 Montana-bound wing is not only an athletic slasher and finisher on the break, but he can also rebound the defensive glass and lead transition opportunities with his ball skills and vision. Carter-Hollinger dropped 26 points in Saturday’s overtime loss to Etiwanda and had 18 with seven rebounds in a win over Orange Lutheran last Friday.
