Friday’s Games to Watch
Five games to watch during Friday’s WIAA boy’s basketball action…
Kaukauna (2-0) at Kimberly (2-0)
The two favorites in the Fox Valley Association tangle and we’ll be live at the scene. The Papermakers are getting 23.5 ppg from senior forward Levi Brochert. The rest of the trio has been strong as well as both Jake Buchanan (23.0 ppg) and Reed Miller (13.0 ppg) are averaging in double figures. While Kaukauna has a dangerous 1-2 punch in Keaton Ferris (13.0 ppg) and Donovan Ivory (14.0 ppg), the Ghosts have been surprisingly balanced through two games. Senior Brayden Ivory had a 20-point effort earlier this season, while Logan Jedwabny (19.0 ppg) and Jacob Newhouse (17.5 ppg) have also put together strong numbers thus far.
Cuba City (2-0) at Darlington (3-0)
The SWAL is proving to be one of the better conferences in the state this season. Darlington has a couple of huge wins under their belts already, taking down Mineral Point and Barneveld, while getting 20.7 ppg from sophomore wing Carter Lancaster. Cuba City, who is coming off a 101-point effort in their last game, will try and hand the Redbirds their first loss of the season. The Cubans currently have four players averaging in double figures.
Brookfield Central (1-0) at Brookfield East (2-0)
Rivals square off to open Greater Metro Conference play. These two had some battles in 2017-18, with the conference title coming down to the final game of the season with Central edging East by one game. The Lancers reload behind Gage Malensek, Cole Nau, and David Joplin. The Spartans are in rebuilding mode after losing Patrick Cartier, but figure to be a challenger in the conference once again.
Kiel (3-1) at Roncalli (3-0)
Looking like a factor in Division 3, Kiel has rattled off wins over Random Lake, Kewaskum, and Chilton. Last season’s Division 4 state champion, Roncalli, is a perfect 3-0 to start the season. Senior guard Chombi Lambert is off to a nice start as well, averaging 17 points and 3 assists per game.
D.C. Everest (3-0) at Eau Claire North (3-0)
Two undefeated programs square off in an intriguing non-conference battle. An excellent matchup at guard will take place between Everest’s Zion Turner (24.3 ppg) and North’s Dalton Banks (30.3 ppg).
