Catching Up With: The Boone twins
Keylan and Kalib Boone opened their senior season at Tulsa Memorial with a 100-58 win over Daniel Webster on Thursday night. The Boone’s combined for 38 points in the victory a day after signing to play at Oklahoma State University. I caught up with the most dynamic pair of twins in the State of Oklahoma after their win to talk about their signing and hopes for the 2018-19 season.
“The experience was unbelievable,” said Kalib of his signing. “Growing up, me and (Keylan) always wanted to play in the Big 12.”
“Committing to OSU is a dream-come-true,” said Keylan. “It takes a lot of load off going into the season.”
Entering their senior season, the Boone twins lead the Tulsa Memorial basketball program, an early favorite in Oklahoma 5A basketball. The Chargers have won two Championships in a row, and the twins are relieved to have their signing out of the way. Their focus has now shifted to winning a third straight Gold Ball.
“We plan on staying 100 percent focused on us and building up as a school,” said Keylan. “We have our marks to leave here. . . there’s much more we need to do.”
“I wanna make history,” said Kalib. “Not just personal history; team history.”
They got things started off right with Thursday night’s win over a talented Daniel Webster team. The Chargers, and Keylan and Kalib in particular, were impressive in how few mistakes they made. They played as or more efficient than many teams do at mid-season.
The chemistry on this Tulsa Memorial team is huge, and having a group of accomplished athletes, who could turn their focus to other things, on board with the team’s success is a huge part of that.
“When I leave, this will always be my home, forever,” said Kalib. “I want people people to look back and be like ‘that group… They got a three-peat.'”
