Rolling Hills Prep Fall Classic: First Five
Wilmington, Ca. — The Rolling Hills Prep Fall Classic was an eight-game event featuring many of the top programs that Southern California has to offer.
The marquee matchup was a showdown of two teams, Rancho Christian and Bishop Montgomery, which are sure to be competing for CIF Southern Section and State championships come February and March.
Rancho Christian came away with a hard-fought 55-52 victory behind Isaiah Mobley, Evan Mobley and Dominick Harris. One of the bigger upsets of the day came by way of a Riverside Notre Dame victory over perennial power Santa Ana Mater Dei. Anton Mozga paced the Titans with balanced contributions from Pierce Sterling, Dondre Bausley and Anthony Holland.
Here are the “First Five” performers from Saturday’s action:
Gianni Hunt, PG, Bishop Montgomery
Hunt led all scorers with 22 points in spotlight game and came alive in the second half, scoring 13 of those points in the final 16 minutes. Hunt, an Oregon State-commit, willed the Knights back from a nine-point deficit, scoring both from the perimeter and with some mid-range paint game.
Rancho Christian forward Isaiah Mobley scored 10 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the Eagles’ 55-52 win over Bishop Montgomery at the Rolling Hills Prep Fall Hoops Classic.Jaime Jaquez, F, Camarillo
Jaquez was dominant in the second game of the day, scoring 25 points with nine rebounds to lead Camarillo to a 63-55 win over Brentwood. The 6-foot-6 UCLA-bound forward, as he always does, had his hands in every aspect of the game from defense, to rebounding, to highlight reel dunks and smooth perimeter jump shooting.
Ziaire Williams, F, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame
Williams sparked some fireworks in a four-point win over Long Beach Poly with his involvement in a shoving match that resulted in a handful of technical fouls and yelling and screaming between team benches. The talented 6-foot-8 wing made plenty of noise on the stat sheet, as well, scoring 25 points while grabbing 15 rebounds in the victory.
Isaiah Mobley, F, Rancho Christian
The USC-bound forward didn’t have his best scoring game (10 points) but made his mark defensively with 16 rebounds, five blocked shots, and countless redirects and shot contests at the rim. The elder Mobley is one of the most versatile players in the country with his inside-out scoring and ability to initiate offense with his ball handling and vision.
Evan Mobley, F, Rancho Christian
The younger Mobley had his usual impact on both ends of the floor, scoring 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and four blocked shots. The 6-foot-11 forward was the main reason why the Eagles were able to maintain separation from Bishop Montgomery with his rim protection and ability to finish off high-low scoring opportunities.
