2019 Anthony Walker commits to Miami
Look around the country the past two years and you won’t be able to find many other players that have improved as much as Anthony Walker. Earlier today in the Perry Hall High School Gymnasium, the current Brewster Academy senior announced that he will attend the University of Miami. Walker had narrowed his list down to four schools that included Pittsburgh, Illinois, Boston College and Miami before making the commitment official.
“Going on the visit and seeing the direction the program is heading and how they pay attention to every detail was great for me to see.” Walker to Prep Hoops. “When I went on all of my visits all of the schools pretty much told me the same things. They all told me I would play and tell me that I’m position-less, but Miami went above and beyond by researching my game. They knew every stat from this spring and summer of mine on the Gauntlet and just made it known that they needed me.”
The 6-foot-8 forward will bring a ton of versatility from his position. Walker is known for his high-flying theatrics whenever an opportunity for him to do so arises, but he has polished his overall game in order to become the four-star prospect that we’ve seen. His jump shot from outside has improved dramatically. As he continues to work more on ball handling, he offers option of playing him on the wing as well.
Walker spoke about the relationship he has been able to build over time with head coach Jim Larranaga and what he expects of Walker.
“He sees me coming in and making an impact as a freshman,” Walker continued, “of course I’ll have to work for it, but just having me be able to stretch the floor and guard multiple positions.”
The recruitment process for these young 17 and 18-year-olds can be extremely stressful. Now that Walker has made it official, he can focus on what’s most important, which is improving his game.
“It’s a huge weight off my shoulders,” Walker said. “Now that everyone knows where I’m going I can concentrate on just getting better. I can just play my game. At this point it’s not about impressing people, it’s all about putting up another banner on the wall for Brewster that says national champions.”
Walker is looking forward to his first season at Brewster Academy after transferring from Perry Hall. The Bobcats are always considered as one of the top teams in the country and this year will be no different. Walker will be surrounded by a ton of talent, most of which are considered the top of their class.
“I’m excited for this season,” Walker continued, “just playing in a fast style, I know I’ll have to get my handles tighter and a more consistent jump shot along with continuing to get bigger and stronger.”
