Prospect Spotlight: Ryan Landers (2020)
Walnut Grove point guard Ryan Landers has big plans for his future, and he’s hoping to use his junior season with the Warriors to show that he’s one of Georgia’s best.
The 6-foot-2 guard is a natural leader on the floor, and has been working to develop into a true point guard of late.
“My strength is that I’m a leader when I’m out on the court; I like to set an example for my teammates when I’m out there on the court. I’m good at flashing to the basket and I’m really strong, I can absorb contact,” said Landers.
“I need to work more on my shooting consistency, because sometimes I have good days and sometimes bad days, and also my explosiveness.”
Landers had an opportunity to play with the Georgia Stars 16U this summer on the EYBL circuit. It was an eye-opening experience for the up-and-coming guard.
“It was a really great experience, there was some good coaches and some cool guys. And playing on the EYBL is completely different than playing anywhere else; the experience is the best,” he said. “I just gave it my all every game, playing defense, offense and just being a good role player.”
Now, with his junior season at Walnut Grove on the horizon, Landers is hoping to become one of Georgia’s best playmakers.
“Last year as a sophomore I was a scorer and I did my best to do that. Now, I’ve turned into a true point guard and I plan on leading my team and creating for others, while still scoring,” he said.
Recruitment-wise, he says things started getting interesting with this past summer.
“When I started playing EYBL, lots of schools started noticing me,” Landry said.
Tennessee State, Hofstra, Longwood, Bryant, Presbyterian, Lipscomb and James Madison were among the schools he mentioned that are interested. “They call me and check up on me,” he said.
“My goal for my high school season is to win. And a year from now, I see myself with higher schools calling me and showing interest and I see myself on the ESPN Top 100.”
