The high school season is approaching rapidly, and with that in mind, this seems like the most time-appropriate way to break it down. These kids will be competing for conference and regional championships with each other very soon!
In case you missed it: We have covered Northwest Ohio Point Guards, Guards/Wings, and Forwards. Also, Northeast Ohio Point Guards, Guards, Wings, and Forwards. Finally, Central Ohio Point Guards, Guards, Wings, and Forwards.
(#29) RaHeim Moss, 6’3′ W, Springfield
With the graduation and/or transfer of Leonard Taylor, Sam Towns, and JaJuan “Jay” Rodgers, Moss will lead a group of junior guards this season. His slashing ability through traffic will be the focal point of their halfcourt offense. But expect the Wildcats to run often and be one of the more exciting teams this season. He thrives in transition and has excellent defensive tools for a pressure defense.
(#56) Garrett Powell, 6’6” F, Springboro
Powell is one of the top stock-risers in this rankings update after having a standout July with Apex Basketball Club. He led a group of quality prospects with his versatility from the four and five position. Powell likes to push pace off the defensive glass and has enough ball skills to take guys off the dribble, mostly getting to the rim with power. Also, a capable spot shooter. One of the most underrated D-II prospects in Ohio.
(#57) Anton Webb, 6’8” W/F, Dayton Christian
Webb is one of three guys in the 2019 class keeping with the prep school trend in Southwest Ohio. He announced he’ll attend Spire Institute after senior year, which makes sense with his young age. His physical tools resemble a D-I athlete, but we’ll be interested to see if he can add enough polish to his game to reach that level. Regardless, he should absolutely demolish competition in the Metro Buckeye Conference after nearly averaging a double-double as a junior.
(#86) Zach Huffman, 6’6” F, Lebanon
Huffman’s potential breakout July was cut short with a lower body injury on the first weekend of the Live Period. The gritty rebounding big man looked destined for a scholarship before going down in Indianapolis. The injury might allow him to be a steal for D-IIIs, but he’s a problem in the paint when healthy. A consistent finisher who rebounds better than almost anyone in Ohio. Hopefully his relentless pursuit of loose balls and physical post play won’t be wiped away after the injury.
(#103) Kellan Bochenek, 6’4” G/W, Fairmont
Bochenek really surprised us this grassroots season with his consistent shooting ability and sneaky athleticism. He has a muscular build and uses it on straight-line drives, which is setup by the shooting threat. Bochenek is really a prototypical wing for Division II, III, and NAIA programs. He could be in for a breakout season at Fairmont this year.
