A Scout’s Take: Ron Massey FHC (Under the Radar)
NORWALK, Ca.—Dinos Trigonis, one of the pronounced Grassroots pioneers, orchestrated yet another epic Fall Hoops Classic—now named after former Long Beach Jordan Head Coach Ron Massey.
In a field that was loaded with much of Southern California’s elite programs, it would be Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) that would bag the championship with impressive wins over Harvard-Westlake, Mater Dei, and Bishop Montgomery. Bishop Gorman’s electrifying junior Noah Taitz would bring home the MVP as he lit up the score board in a variety of ways.
Vaughn Flowers (Rolling Hills Prep)
2020, SG, 6-foot-3, 175 pounds
Flowers has the physical make-up to play at some level of college.Joel’s Take: Slowly, but assuredly, Flowers has continued to improve his all around game. He has the ideal frame and physical tools to be a college player and now his skills and overall feel are starting to be revealed. He can score effectively at the rim and in the paint area utlizing his ability to play through contact. Continuing to improve the consistency of his mid-range game (pull-up, runner, etc.) and 3-point shot will take his game to a new level.
Emmanuel Agubata (Rancho Verde)
2019, WF, 6-foot-4, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: This late-blooming wing-type has long arms, superior quickness, and can slash his way to the basket with the best of them. His ball skills are raw when he attacks pressure and his jump shot needs to be more consistent, but the physical tools are there for JUCO level.
Dondre Bausley (Riverside Notre Dame)
2019, SG, 6-foot-3, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: Notre Dame has a group of versatile permeter players who can impact the game in multiple ways—and Bausley is one of those players. He is a chisled 2-guard who can shoot the deep ball, attack off the dribble, and he is a quality defender who has the strength, moxie, and lateral quickness to guard all three perimeter positions.
Allen McBride (Corona Centennial)
2019, PF, 6-foot-4, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: McBride is raw, but he has a hot motor. He excels in the paint as a rebounder and finisher. He has a knack for being around the ball and he grabs rebounds with two hands due o his timing and bounce in his legs. His shooting touch extends to the elbow and he gets great lift, but improving his ball skills and triple threat game in the half court set will elevate his stock.
Nick Schraeder (Bishop Montgomery)
2019, PF, 6-foot-5, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: Schraeder is Mr. Reliable for the Knights. This 4-man possesses excellent footwork, soft hands, and is sneaky bouncy. His timing in the paint is impeccable and he is one of those players that has a nose for the ball. He can finish with either hand and knock in the elbow jump shot as well.
